VALLISAARI

Vallisaari is an island situated next to the fortress island of Suomenlinna. It is a large island with a rich nature, such as several rare species of birds, bats, and butterflies.

The history of Vallisaari is long and interesting, since the fortifications have been built during a period of 400 years, firs by the swedes, then the Russians and finally by independent Finland. Vallisaari has ben central to the development of the pilot organization that safely guided ships through the narrow straits to Helsinki. The most famous landmark on the island is Aleksanterinpatteri fortification, named after emperor Alexander II. There are several popular picnic spots on the island. Vallisaari has been open for the public since 2016.

The first Helsinki Biennial will be held in the unique surroundings of Vallisaari island 12.6.–26.9.2021.

There is no entrance fee to the island, only the route traffic ticket fee.
The ticket is a personal day-ticket, valid on one trip to the island and one trip back from the island, as well as any number of travels on the “Circle Line” during the day, if there is room on the Circle Line ferry.
Travel time is 20-25 minutes/direction
The ship that departs from Kauppatori first arrives at Luotsipiha, where customers are asked to debark the vessel. The return journey departs from a different pier called the Torpedo Bay.
Tickets are purchased from the online webstore or from the ticket booth at Kauppatori (WED-SUN from 10am to 17 pm) or from vessels.

Disabilities: can only be assisted by a normal wheelchair. Unfortunately the electric wheelchair doesn´t fit in Vallisaari vessels.

Online Store

Private customers may purchase tickets from our online store.
We suggest buying tickets in advance from the webshop, since this is the only way for a customer to make sure there is room for him/her on a specific departure. Roughly 70% of tickets are sold online and 30 % on the shore. Passengers with online tickets board the ship first on shore at Kauppatori, Lyyperinlaituri.  You cannot select a specific departure for the return trip from Vallisaari. Note! Ticket from booth is NOT an advance ticket.

On the ticket booth you may pay with card or cash (Visa/Mastercard).
Please note! The online ticket is not refunded without good reason, such as medical reasons. Bad weather is not a good reason.

Groups may book journeys and may be billed afterwards. To do this, the group need a booking code which you will get from our customer’s service info@suomensaaristokuljetus.fi (year-round). More detailed information in the Section “Groups” below.

Groups:

Vallisaari is a popular destination for groups. There are three differens ways for groups to book tickets:

  1. The group leader may purchase tickets from the ticket store like and regular customer and pay with card as he or she completes the purchase.
  2. The group leader may ask for a personal code from our customer’s service. With this code the group leader may book tickets without paying for them on spot. The group leader is required to fill in billing information in the system. A billing fee of 10 euros is added to any order.
The booking is not valid, until 7 days before the trip, after which no further changes can be made to the order and we will bill accordingly. Before this 7-day period however the group leader may log in with his or her coda and make changes to the number of passengers, departure times or other information, or even cancel the whole reservation. This makes it possible to make reservations well in advance without risk!
